Austin, TX, November 28, 2006 — Chinatown Center and Tan International Group, Ltd. hosted a private VIP dinner on Friday, September 29, 2006 with Texas Culinary Academy providing the full 5-course meal. The dinner featured an Asian-inspired menu complete with traditional Shark Fin soup. Tan International Group donated over $15,000 to the Texas Culinary Academy’s scholarship fund in exchange for their hard work in preparing the evening’s dinner. This was the first off-site catering event for the culinary school’s student-run restaurant Ventana and served as part of the students Restaurant 401 practical experience. The culinary extravaganza was under the direction of Chef Instructor Mike Erickson of TCA. The funds from this donation will go towards enhancing the fine dining experience in Ventana. Namely, this opportunity will allow Ventana to offer “Le Cordon Bleu” charger plates as part of the restaurant food presentation. These china plates with the Le Cordon Bleu emblem will add to the ambiance of classical service that the school teaches and will allow the students the opportunity to work in a restaurant offering the highest level of service. “We are pleased to have been a part of showcasing Austin’s newest culinary destination and allowing our students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as part of a catering event of this caliber,” Erickson says.
